SEE & DO

Korzo

Very popular with the locals, some of the side streets have a little more shade.Lots of outdoor cafes, restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, shopping... It is full of life. So many people but it is a happy walk through it. Historical buildings of old Rijeka are on the side of the Korzo.

Rijeka's Carnival

About a century ago Rijeka lived its carnival life more intensively than any other town in this part of Europe. Carnival parades were organized as well as carnival balls with the presence of Austrian and Hungarian aristocrats, Russian princesses, German barons, earls and countesses from all over Europe. The rebirth of the Rijeka Carnival started in 1982. The largest event happened in 2001 with 144 groups participating with 150,000 visitors attended it.

Day trips from Rijeka

Rijeka is ideally located in a center of many curiosities and a day trip to them is definitely a good  way to explore the area:

-Opatija, Pearl of Croatian sea
-Istria, the biggest Croatian peninsula

-Krk, Croatian gold island

-Plitvice lakes, breath away nature

-Platak,unique ski area with a sea view

-Postojna Cave & Predjama Castle

Rijeka's beaches

Rijeka is located right on the Adriatic Sea and close to a number of excellent Blue Flag beaches with clear, warm water that's great for summer swimming,

Many inhabitants of Rijeka will have a favorite beach and often these are a drive out of the city, but sometimes not. Hidden from the view of new visitors to the city center, Rijeka does have some very nice beaches of its own. Some are even within walking distance. Those that are not are within just a short bus ride away.

Trsat Castle

It is thought that the castle lies at the exact spot of an ancient Illyrian and Roman fortress. The Croatian noble Vuk Krsto Frankopan is buried in one of the churches. The Trsat castle was completely reconstructed and renovated in the 19th century when the mausoleum of the military commander Laval Nugent was built in its interior. The courtyard of the castle has now been turned into a restaurant and many tourists visit the place during the summer months.
